Gender Studies. Barriers and Contributions to the Theoretical International Debate from the Voices of the Other Women

Up to the 20th century, women with university degrees have monopolised and guided the feminist debates, from those many conquests have rose but also many errors. For example, the voices of the most excluded women have been silenced in the important decision-making processes. Women that come together being from different ethnic groups, cultural backgrounds, academic levels, ages and live experiences and that call themselves “the other women”. Their participation in the social movements of the neighbourhood has favoured the transformation of their context through the incorporation of their claims. Then, many neighbourhoods have become the scenario in which the movement of “the other women” has been forged. This movement contributes to the advancement of gender policies and improvements in the services addressed to women in the different territorial domains. In this article, first we briefly present how “the other women” have been organised in different moments of history and, second, we explain current specific actions of “the other women” that have generated the transformation of their environment and that they contribute with key elements to the international theoretical debate.
