Abstract:Objective To explore the mediating effect of self-esteem between personality and life satisfaction in the nursing students. Methods The cluster sampled 753 college students were surveyed with questionnaires. Results The neuroticism(β=-0.33, P0.001),conscientiousness(β=0.16, P0.001), amenity(β=0.14,P0.001),extraversion(β=0.14, P0.001)could significantly predict life satisfaction. The neuroticism(β=-0.44,P0.001),conscientiousness(β=0.29,P0.001), amenity(β=0.09,P0.01),extraversion(β=0.17,P0.001)could significantly predict self-esteem. The neuroticism(β=-0.21,P0.001),conscientiousness(β=0.08,P0.01), amenity(β=0.11,P0.01),extraversion(β=0.09,P0.01)and self-esteem(β=0.28,P0.001)could significantly predict life satisfaction. The results showed the partial mediation of self-esteem between personality and life satisfaction. The results were from the data in controlling the demographic variables. Conclusion Personality not only had an direct effect on life satisfaction, but also had an indirect effect on life satisfaction by self-esteem in the nursing students.
