:Objective To investigate the training needs of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)nursing among nurses in hospitals in Wuxi, and provide reference for the development of TCM nursing system and training of TCM nursing specialists in Wuxi. Methods 〓A stratified quota sampling method was used to select 1 123 nurses from 15 hospital in Wuxi. All nurses were investigated by using a self-made questionnaire about training needs of TCM specialist nursing. Results 〓There were a total of 1 123 valid questionnaires. Only 6.50%(73/1 123)nurses graduated from the college or university of TCM, 15.32%(172/1 123)nurses had received training of TCM specialist nursing, 83.44%(937/1 123)nurses hoped to accept the training about TCM theory and practice skills. In terms of training forms, 50.85%(571/1 123)preferred to full-time training, 81.21%(912/1 123)nurses considered the 3-month training should be provided, 91.10%(1023/1 123)nurses hoped that their training program taught by expert and experienced teachers, 57.52%(646/1 123)nurses required a ‘theory-practice-theory-practice’ model. The most adoptable teaching method was classroom teaching, followed by clinical practice, experience exchange, scenario simulation and nursing ward round. The most wanted course was TCM nursing technique, TCM basic theory, TCM health education, TCM life-cultivation and TCM dietary therapy. Conclusion 〓It is required to establish a scientific and standard training system, define the training target and Post-training effectiveness, concentrate superior teaching resources, adopt flexible training method and set up practical training courses, in order to improve the quality of TCM training in Wuxi.
