Abstract:Objective To compare the difference between self-evaluation and evaluation by nurse in pain assessment after thoracotomy. Methods A total of 189 patients undergoing thoracotomy were included in this study. The pain degree at 6 hour after analgesia pump application was assessed by using numeric rating scale(NRS)in ways of self-evaluation and evaluation by nurse respectively. Results There was a significant difference in pain degree assessed in ways between self-evaluation and evaluation by nurse(P0.05). The overall NRS score was(6.73±1.52)in way of self-evaluation and was(4.55±1.29)in way of evaluation by nurse, with significant difference(P0.05).The pain degree in 81.48% of patients was underestimated by nurses. Conclusion The pain degree after thoracotomy could be underestimated by nursing staff. It is necessary to enhance the pain education in both patients and nurses.
