:Objective To analyze the application efficacy of modified oral care combined with the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)preparation for ICU patients with orotracheal intubation. Methods 〓Totally 120 patients with orotracheal intubation were assigned to the control group, intervention groupⅠand intervention groupⅡ, with 40 patients in each group. Based on the routine nursing of mechanical ventilation, the control group received routine oral care, the intervention groupⅠreceived modified oral care, and the intervention group Ⅱ received modified oral care combined with the Traditional Chinese medicine preparation. The incidence of ventilator associated pneumonia(VAP), dental plaque index and organoleptic score(OS)of oral malodor were assessed and compared between two groups. Results 〓The incidence of VAP was 7.50%(3/40)in the intervention group Ⅱ, which was lower than 32.50%(13/40)in the control group and 22.50%(9/40)in the intervention group Ⅰ(P0.05). On the third day and fifth day after the intervention, the dental plaque index and OS were lower in the intervention group Ⅱ than those in the control group and the intervention group Ⅰ, respectively(P0.01). Conclusion 〓The modified oral care combined with the TCM preparation are effective to improve the hygiene of the oral cavity, relieve the oral malodor, control the dental plaque, and reduce the risk of VAP in patients with orotracheal intubation.
