Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of oral hygiene nursing with different frequency for patients with disorder of consciousness. Methods Totally 135 ICU patients with disorder of consciousness were assigned to the observation group(n=68)and the control group(n=68). The oral hygiene nursing was carried every 12 hours in the control group and every 8 hours in the observation group. The oral pH and cleaning degree were observed at day 4 and day 7. Results The oral pH in the observation group was higher than that of controls at day 4 and day 7 after intervention(P0.05or P0.01). Patients in the observation group had lower score in cleaning degree assessment compared with that in the control group(P0.05or P0.01). Conclusion Oral care at every 8 hours is potentially effective to improve the oral hygiene of patients with disorder of consciousness.
