摘要

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) can offer patients more indepen- dence and flexibility compared with haemodialysis (HD). However, the PD regimen can be demanding as patients must manage the daily technical responsibilities of PD and minimise the risk of complications such as infection. This treatment burden can impair patients’ quality of life, ability to self-manage, treatment satisfaction and outcomes. Patient empowerment enables patients and fosters their capacity for self-man- agement and a sense of control over their health. However, little is known about the contributors, concepts, and consequences of empowerment from the perspective of patients on PD. We aimed to describe the attitudes and experiences of patients and caregivers on empowerment in PD.
