An Unusual Case of Pulmonary Embolism in a Young Healthy Female Competitive Rower

Young healthy women without a genetic predispositionare considered to be at low risk for deep vein thrombosisand pulmonary emboli. We present an unusual case ofpulmonary embolism in a 21-year-old female competitiverower likely caused by oral contraception and traumaof the axillary-subclavian vein by extrinsic compressiondue to repetitive arm movements.
