ASSESSMENT OF TANNERY EFFLUENT: A CASE STUDY OF KANPUR IN INDIA

The tannery effluent collected at monthly interval from January 2011 to December 2011 and analyzed for its characteristics. Samples were collected from one of the tannery from Jajmau area of Kanpur city of India. Results of the analysis showed that presence of addition chemical load like iron, calcium, magnesium, carbonate, bicarbonate, chloride and BOD were found in the discharged effluent of the above stated tannery. The analysis of various physical and chemical characteristics of tannery effluents showed variations according to season and results reveals that these are certain relationships between physico-chemical characteristics of effluents both positive and negative.
