Diversity and Conservational Status of Avifauna in Bastar Plateau of Chhattisgarh, India

The present study aims at preparing a consolidated account on theavifaunal composition of Bastar plateau by compiling the informationgiven in the past literatures and observations gathered during the presentf ield work. Thus, a total of 304 species of birds belonging to 194 generaunder 63 families have been listed from the area including f ive birdsrecorded forthe f irsttime from Central India. Moreover, the list includes 15Globally Threatened birds comprising three Critically Endangered, oneEndangered, four Vulnerable and seven Near Threatened species. Furtherwe identif ied the most biodiversity hotspot zones in the studied area andalertthestate forestdepartmentforproperconservationsof thesame.
