A study on the willingness and capability for core information system transformation in the bank

Core Banking Information System (CBIS) transformation in the bank is a complex and challenging work. Without adequate knowledge about what and how to evaluate the important features for the CBIS, many banks have invested considerable financial and human resources on the project implementation, but the results are frustratingly fall short of their expectations. The study accordingly consolidates opinions from experienced specialists and adopts Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to weigh the key evaluating factors in implementing CBIS. A Taiwanese bank case is demonstrated to highlight the needs of developing evaluation criteria prior to choosing a solution for CBIS. In addition, this study develops a comprehensive checklist to assist banks to perform a better decision-making for CBIS transformation.
