Medicina Integrativa: efectos de la acupuntura y su aplicación clínica en la medicina convencional

La acupuntura ha sido utilizada hace m??s de 3 000 mil a?±os en la medicina tradicional china. En la actualidad, la Organizaci?3n Mundial de la Salud (OMS) reconoce esta pr??ctica para el manejo integral del dolor y de otras condiciones cl?-nicas. Su aplicaci?3n para el manejo del dolor cr?3nico y refractario a los tratamientos convencionales es considerada como una terapia ?otil, segura, efectiva y placentera no s?3lo para el manejo del dolor, sino tambi??n para disminuir los efectos adversos producidos por los tratamientos oncol?3gicos. En los ?oltimos 15 a?±os, el National Institutes of Health junto con el National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health han realizado m?oltiples estudios cient?-ficos, logrando identificar muchos de los mecanismos neurol?3gicos por los cuales la acupuntura logra su efecto terap??utico. En la actualidad la medicina integrativa hace parte de la oferta acad??mica de muchas universidades, hospitales e instituciones dedicadas a la educaci?3n m??dica, con el fin de ampliar el manejo integral del paciente, abarcando su enfermedad desde el contexto integral del ser y permitiendo que la evidencia determine su aplicaci?3n cl?-nica. En Medicina no se puede rechazar un tratamiento por ignorancia y desconocimiento, por esto es necesario que bajo la evidencia cient?-fica se logren validar los tratamientos, permitiendo conocer cu??les son las opciones integrales, seguras y efectivas para que los pacientes mejorar su calidad de vida. ?? ABSTRACT Acupuncture has been practiced in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 3000 years; currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledges this practice for the integrative pain management and other clinical conditions. Its application for the chronic and refractory pain management with conventional treatments, allows it to be a useful, secure, effective and pleasant therapy not only for the pain management, but also to decrease the adverse effects of oncologic treatments. In the last 15 years the National Institutes of Health altogether with the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine allowed conducting multiple scientific studies, to enable the identification of the neurologic mechanisms through which acupuncture achieves its therapeutic effects. Nowadays integrative medicine is part of the academic offer of many universities, hospitals and institutions dedicated to the medical education worldwide, with the aim of optimizing the integrative management of the patient, addressing the disease in the holistic context of the being and allowing evidence to determine the clinical application of this type of treatments. In medicine treatments cannot be rejected due to ignorance or lack of information, therefore ita€?s necessary to be able to validate treatments based on scientific evidence, to allow us to find which are the integrative, secure and effective options so that patients can improve their quality of life.
