Well, just when you thought you had a three-year breather to overcome the many problems posed by the new Machinery Directive, the goal posts have once more been moved. The European Commission has back-tracked on its decision, made back in September, to grant more time to machine builders and safety product suppliers in their transition from EN 954-1 to the rather more sophisticated EN ISO 13849-1 and EN/IEC 62061 standards (see lead item on page 4).rnThe Machinery Directive Working Group meets again early next month, when hopefully the matter will be finalised and the industry has a much clearer outlook on compliance issues. But until then, it's back to the December 29 2009 deadline.
