In 1973, just as today, the country was worried about transportation security. Skyjacking and shipjacking particularly. H.R. Kaplan writes in his article titled "Fighting the Skyjack Menace" (Jan-Feb 1973) of the procedure just then approved to screen passengers and their luggage at airports. Excerpts from his story seem like they could have come from yesterday's newspapers (see pictures below). But the story's concluding prediction unfortunately has not come true, "that if the American public gives us its full support, we can win a decisive victory in the war against air piracy."
