摘要

A solitary Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel (LCVP) at the National D-Day Museum reminds visitors of the major role this small boat played in World War Ⅱ, transporting soldiers to enemy-held beachheads in Europe, Asia and the Pacific. In spite of its scale, the craft is boundless when measured in human terms. From assembly line workers to troops carried onboard, many share the legacy. Yet one person stands out from all the rest: Andrew Jackson Higgins, who dedicated himself to designing and building the "bridge from ship to shore".
