FEMA is the central point of contact within the federal government for a wide range of emergency planning and response activities. It works closely with all levels of government and the emergency management community to improve the nation's state of civil preparedness and ability to respond effectively to crises of all kinds. FEMA is headquartered in Washington, DC, with regional and area offices across the country, and the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center, National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, MD, and the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, AL. Often FEMA works in partnership with other organizations that are part of the nation's emergency management team. These partners include state and local emergency management agencies, 27 federal agencies, the American Red Cross, and other non-governmental entities, including the faith-based community.
