摘要

The US-India relationship has undergone a significant transformation over the past decade. Modest military assistance in the past has been replaced by training and the introduction of modern technologies and materials. The sales of military equipment are no longer subsidized by the US government via the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, but are conducted along market principles and prices via Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) . The weapon package currently on offer to India exceeds $ 1 billion and, if approved, will make the United States a major contributor to India's weapons inventory. The two sides are co-operating in missile defense and their military exercises involve arsenals and war-gaming simulations that are more in line with US exercises with its major NATO partners.
