COVID-19-RELATED PRESSURES provided an avenue for many governments to rationalize poor economic and political performance in 2020, but Nigeria's precipitate strategic decline, now worsening, had begun well before the global health-triggered crisis.The question, however, is how much worse could the situation get for Nigeria, particularly in a world which is now focusing less attention on African governance, investment, and support? This decline in international pressure and attention had already become evident at the time of the last Nigerian Presidential election on February 19, 2019. The non-African world - and, indeed, the African Union (AU) - gave little heed to the massive election irregularities which augured poorly for any improvement in the national condition during Pres. Muhammadu Buhari's second term in office. But 2020 was to become particularly damaging for Nigeria.
