The ability to evacuate wounded and injured personnel from theatres of operation swiftly and in good care has been one of the notable success stories of Operation Herrick. The introduction of advanced aeromedical evacuation equipment has transformed the capabilities of the 3,000 mile air bridge to such an extent that injured personnel from any of the services can be repatriated from point of wounding to a UK hospital within 48 hours and, if necessary, be provided with critical or intensive care every step of the way.
