Defence research - in Turing's footsteps

The UK has a long history of the interaction of defence, artificial intelligence (Al) and mathematics. Al pioneer Alan Turing's work in Bletchley Park was key to the WWII war effort, while Patrick Blackett's work on submarine warfare demonstrated the power of mathematical decision-making.rnToday, Turing's successors create autonomous systems (eg. unmanned aircraft or UAVs) that play an increasingly important role in military operations around the world.
