The purchase of the F-35B/Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) by Britain and other countries is a questionable move that will ultimately lower the capability of air forces and hurt the bottom line of procurement budgets, according to a prominent defence analyst and former US government auditor.rnBritain is scheduled to buy 150 of the aircraft for approximately £1.84bn, but many analysts believe that this price could rise by up to £400m over the next few years. The JSF is expected to be at least two years late as well, with a delivery date of 2018.rnThese costs and delays to the aircraft are part of an international procurement programme that has been labelled "a bad joke" by Winslow Wheeler, Director of the Straus Military Reform Project at the Center for Defense Information in Washington DC.
