The past decade has seen our armed forces working at a tempo not seen for many years and there is no reason to imagine that this will reduce in the foreseeable future. The demands on resources are such that reductions in existing capability and the delay or postponement of new assets will have a critical effect - particularly on the ability of the UK to meet global military, humanitarian and governmental commitments and aspirations in support of our own interests and those of friends and allies.
