For many years there has been an ongoing reorganisation of defence forces in most countries. All types of units have experienced considerable changes in order to adapt to new situations and doctrines. The need for greater mobility and faster reaction, as well as economic realities, are among the reasons for such restructuring. Often, solutions seem to involve the removal of logistics such as field kitchens, focusing instead on combat units.Yet one factor remains the same. Conflicts between humans occur on land, where people live, and can still only be controlled by soldiers on the ground - often for surprisingly long periods.
