Future-proof PTT systems

Many global soldier modernisation programmes have been in planning for the last five to 10 years, and several are just starting to come to fruition with implementation in the 2012/13 timeframe. Requirements for increased information awareness and improved communications have evolved considerably over this time period, particularly in relation to the headset and push-to-talk (PTT) system. In those early planning stages, a dual PTT may well have sufficed, giving access to two single channel radios. But due to rapid technology advancement, most modernisation programmes now require, as a minimum, a dual-net radio, plus additional connectivity to a single net legacy radio.
