Keeping borders in order

Landlocked or otherwise, a nation's borders remain the points at which it may be most fragile to infiltration and attack While military and security forces across the world must make strategic plans to defend and strengthen their borders, these can be challenging and costly. In the US, one of the defence priorities in the last 10 years has been the reinforcement of the international border with Mexico. In 2006, following the mismanagement of two previous programmes - America's Shield Initiative and the Integrated Surveillance Intelligence System - the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a new border protection programme that looked to solve the issues with these previous programmes.
