Storage performance council releases SPC Benchmark-1

In today's world of highly interactive online computing environments, the performance of data storage is more critical than ever. The evolution of large Storage Area Networks (SANs) has significantly increased the complexity of data storage structures. Measuring the performance of data storage facilities in these complex structures is increasingly more difficult without a standard set of metrics and processes. This lack of measurement capability has frustrated customers in purchasing information technology solutions and placed them at the mercy of vendor-reported benchmark results. The Storage Performance Council (SPC), a team of storage performance experts representing multiple manufacturers, has built the first reliable industry standard benchmark for storage. The SPC has sought a real-world workload for the first benchmark that is brand-neutral, platform independent, network storage capable, prominent within the industry, and that produces performance and price/performance results that are usable by both business and technical decision makers.
