REAL-TIME DATA USING IPad® and MR-1® COMPUTERS on CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Saving time and money and increasing performance are among every day challenges for today's construction companies. Since the beginning of 2009, a major Canadian utility company has done it through implementation of accurate real-time data with a new electronic system using iPad® and MR-1® computers at four construction projects ranging from 11 million dollars to 6,5 billion dollars. Users now have electronic data and pictures readily available through seven types of automatic reports enabling statistics on historical data. Information is now systematic, simple and provides better sampling for strategic activities. The new system enables better monitoring of site work, easier flow of information and data processing and time saving for site personnel. The success of the implementation was done through early adoption from all users. The system now helps with identification of typical teams and productivities, which are useful for generation of new estimates and key to timely evaluation of change orders and time extensions.
