Within the next 10 years, the massive introduction of advanced driver assistance systems into vehicles will drastically change the driving task. The developments of these new functions are strictly related to the introduction of new sensor concepts. Among these new technologies, video sensing appears to be one of the most promising. In this paper, a general overview about the potential implementation of such technologies is given. Some specific examples presented are: vision enhancement; electronic mirror; driver drowsiness detection, giving to video sensor, and, finally, occupant detection.
