On the grounds of what was one of Kent's oldest deer parks lies the Grade II-listed Mote House. It was originally constructed as a timber frame building in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, with Portland Stone used for the exterior cladding. Continuous modification to its interior has taken its toll on the building's structure. The effect over time of is startling, with the first and second floors of the building extensively listing.
