Subaru Introduces ER12 OHC Engine

In an attempt to combat the harsh, grueling applications found in the construction, roadbuilding and landscaping industries, Subaru has developed a new single-cylinder overhead cam (OHC) engine designed specifically for rammer applications. The ER12 gasoline engine, rated 3.5hp (2.6 kW) at 3600rpm, targets machines in the 130 -1751b. (60 -80 kg) weight range. Utilizing an aluminum flywheel and thin-wall aluminum crankcase with high-strength torsion bolts to connect the cylinder head, crankcase and block, the ER12 is designed to provide 24% more horsepower, while maintaining the optimum balance and weight for rammer applications.
