摘要

Shortage of aggregates is becoming a prominent issue in the construction industry due to rapid urbanization. In this study, artificial aggregates were produced with high-volume red mud and fly ash as blended aluminosilicate precursors. The mechanical properties, densities, and internal structures of the fabricated artificial aggregates were characterized, as well as the microstructure analysis and product identification. Through the quantitative analysis of X-ray computed tomography (XCT) images, the obtained pore data indicated that there was a hollow structure inside the artificial aggregates. The results showed that the optimal artificial aggregates could be possible candidates for mortar and concrete preparation. (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
