ACI Houston Chapter Announces 2021 Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards Winner

The winning project was Hanover River Oaks in Houston, TX, USA, which was entered in the High-Rise Building category. It is a 40-story residential high-rise tower in the midtown/River Oaks area on Kirby and Westheimer in Houston. This project is now eligible to be submitted to the ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards, with winners announced annually at the fall ACI Concrete Convention. TAS Commercial Concrete Construction's job consisted of providing labor and materials for a complete turnkey project, including formwork, reinforcing bars, post-tensioning, and placing and finishing. The project totaled 51,095 yd~3 (39,065 m~3) of concrete and 4552 tons (4130 tonnes) of reinforcing bars installed over 75 weeks. The building rests on a 37,760 ft~2 (3500 m~2) mat foundation that included 10,544 yd~3 (8060 m~3) of concrete that was placed in approximately 12 hours with eight concrete pump trucks. Obstacles to the mat placement included decades-old oak trees that lined the south side of the jobsite. These trees had to be protected during the placement. TAS and Hanover Company requested observation and guidance from a City of Houston arborist, who directed the companies on how best to station the pump trucks to protect the trees and their roots.
