On another front, the Kenyan port of Mombasa has secured a loan of approximately USD235 million from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). The money will be used to support the Kenya Ports Authority's (KPA) master plan. A key component of the Mombasa Port Development Project is the construction of a new container terminal. The loan will be used for consultancy services related to this scheme, the building of a new port access road and the acquisition of the necessary cargo-handling equipment.
