Sandra Lavoy, vice-president with the Toronto-based Robert Half Technology, has been working in the IT industry recruiting space for over a decade and has seen workplace dress codes come and go. "It's a much more competitive market now, so it's key to look professional," she said. "Years ago, you didn't have to interact with people — you just did the developing. Today, you have to be more visible and provide advice to all levels of the business, so candidates need to make sure to dress professionally to show that they can do that."
