As the title Getting Personal: Teaching Personal Writing in the Digital Age suggests, the authors featured in Laura Gray-Rosendale's (2018) edited collection explore intersections of the personal and the digital. Both personal writing and digital technology have, of course, been the focus of previous scholarship. However, Gray-Rosendale asserts that no other books have linked theories of personal writing and digital media with specific suggestions for applying these theories in tandem in classrooms and communities. The chapters in this collection present an array of multimodal activities that address both reflection on the personal as well as the practice of personal writing in a variety of classroom contexts (online and face-to-face, graduate and undergraduate) and occasionally in community contexts as well. Each contributing author shares distinct insights on the ways the digital can facilitate, encourage, and reshape the personal.
