Gateway Lx6200-01

Though gateway's $779.99 LX6200-01 is outfitted with several useful tools that allow it to be classified as a home theater PC, we're not convinced those tools are worth the reduced speeds that come with them. The CPU in the LX6200-01 is AMD's 2.2GHz Phenom X4 9500, which is paired with a super-healthy 8GB of RAM. Despite the four processing cores, all that memory, and the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium, the system's performance left something to be desired in nearly all of our benchmark tests, needing (for example) a lengthy 5 minutes and 14 seconds to finish Windows Media Encoder 9 and a poky 5 minutes for iTunes conversion.
