Rebecca Herold on synergies in privacy and security, another profile in cyber courage

There is no more complex or challenging relationship in the cyber world than the one between security and privacy; and there is no cyber expert more able to answer the tough questions than Rebecca Herold. How has our understanding of privacy as it relates to security evolved over the past decade? Privacy used to be considered a strictly legal issue. It was considered completely separate from information security. When they were considered together, it was typically as two topics at odds with each other. Over the past decade, with the passage of more and more data protection laws and the increasing privacy incidents, organisations and the public are finally beginning to understand that information security is necessary to accomplish privacy.
