Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (see News, page 8) might be hugely impressive, but at £60 it's also expensive. If you'd rather take to the skies for free, try the open-source FlightGear instead. Developed by aircraft enthusiasts, FlightGear comes with a handful of planes pre-installed, but you can download hundreds more (as we explain below). You'll find everything from commercial airliners such as the Airbus A320 (which has an updated cockpit in this version) to classic war planes like the Fokker TV twin-engine bomber, and even the Space Shuttle. This release introduces 30 new aircraft, including the SUMPAC (a human-powered plane developed by students at Southampton University in 1961).
