In order to improve the outage performance of the partial relay selection (P-RS) in dual-hop amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying systems, we propose the efficient P-RS that is based on the statistical channel information for the first and the second hops and the instantaneous channel information for either the first or the second hop. We derive a tight lower bound on the outage probability and an asymptotic outage probability for the proposed P-RS in non-identically distributed Rayleigh fading channels. Numerical results are provided to verify the analysis, and to show how much gain the proposed P-RS can achieve relative to the conventional P-RS.
