The actual malice rule that was a key part of New York Times Co. v. Sullivan brought about a revolutionary change in U.S. libel law. The case also has influenced international law in that a growing number of countries and international organizations have considered the ethos of Sullivan in further developing their free speech law. This article examines how Sullivan and the actual malice rule have impacted some international law.
