Winning a Commercial Motor Award two years running is quite an achievement, but RS Recovery ably demonstrated why it once again deserved to be our Breakdown and Recovery Operator of the Year. There was a detailed account of life keeping customers on the road throughout the pandemic. While acknowledging that the nature of the company's work - rescuing stranded vehicles and drivers - meant that social distancing would be impossible, every effort was made to limit contact between customers and staff. Like many in the sector, business did not stop due to Covid-19 and nor did the firm's ambitions, rolling out the VDZ system that allows HGVs to be recovered without going underneath the truck, as well as building new partnerships with bodybuilders to improve roadside safety for drivers. An emphasis on safety has seen drivers take CPC modules on dangerous goods in order to attend breakdowns of ADR vehicles. This led to the development of an internal training programme to show safe roadside working practices.
