The 6x2 rigid, particularly in rear-steer form, is gaining in popularity, taking over from the 4x2 18-tonner on many operations. The extra payload and greater flexibility outweighs the higher capital cost and moderate increase in operating costs. Our test truck is just one version out of a huge range of potential specifications, so if buying new, take time to get exactly what you require. If buying used, things are often more of a compromise, but a fairly standard version like this will work well for most operators. Our only changes would probably be either a shorter wheelbase or longer body and less aggressive front tyres, with possibly a lower profile as well a lower body height.
