Today's highly globalized business environment that encompasses externalization of the business, access by many classes of individuals to a company's information and assets, strong emphasis on strategic alliances and partnerships, and increasing use of outsourcing as a means of achieving cost savings, presents new challenges in enterprise fraud and infrastructure abuse attacks. The latter could have a much greater impact in terms of enterprise exposure, losses and even costly business discontinuity than conventional forms of fraud or theft. The vulnerabilities raised by the new global business environment require that management and risk management, security and audit practitioners upgrade their vision and definition of enterprise fraud and infrastructure abuse.
