The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, would extend all possible support to the country's handicraft industry, Textiles Minister K Sambasiva Rao said after inaugurating the four-day 'Indian Handicrafts & Gifts Fair' (IHGF) at Greater Noida, near New Delhi. The Minister said there is very little emphasis on the research and development of designs and product innovation in the Indian handicraft sector and urged exporters to give greater emphasis on R&D to produce innovative products to become globally competitive. He said already exporters have re-oriented designs, colours and pattern of the Indian handicraft products to suit international requirements, and now there is a need to further re-design and re-adopt the same to develop products for particular buying region or country.
