摘要

In late summer 1956, 28-year-old Charles Jordan was driving past the Chrysler assembly plant on Mound Road in Detroit. "Chuck," as he was familiarly known, did this often, just before the new models were introduced. He was a General Motors designer, and he liked to keep track of what the competition was up to. That year, through a chain link fence, he spied the 1957 Ply mouths. "[W]ow, that was really a shock," he later told writer and historian Michael Lamm. "They looked so clean and lean, with that thin roof and the nice proportions of glass, just the opposite of what we were doing at GM."
