Six independent stores in Oregon have banded together in a test that proves there is strength in numbers. The Portland Fiber District grew when business owners saw that the synergy of their businesses could enhance traffic. The stores located on the city's west side within a five-block area take advantage of their physical proximity and focus on the creative consumer to make the area a shopping destination. As you might suspect, many shoppers visit all these stores on a single trip. The creative customer is often multi-skilled, and this is the primary reason for the alliance. "We're all related, but different," is the group's motto.
