摘要

After years of planning and negotiations, one of the largest efforts to restore cold-water anadromous fish to their native habitat is set to begin soon in northern California. Conceived in the early 1960s and now expected to cost $170 million, the project to restore salmon and steelhead trout will entail removing several small dams and modifying a handful of others to facilitate the return of these species to approximately 42 mi (68 km) of Battle Creek.
