Section of Brooklyn Waterfront Converted to Electric Car Race Course

A 1.21 MI LONG SECTION of the waterfront in New York I City's borough of Brooklyn was temporarily converted this summer into a race course for electrically powered vehicles similar to the traditional Formula One race cars that are powered by gasoline blends. Known as Formula E cars, the all-electric, single-seat, open-cockpit, open-wheel vehicles raced around the streets of Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood on a route that was carefully engineered to accommodate speeds reaching as high as 140 mph.
