EDITORIAL

摘要

This issue contains three papers from the International Conference on Mitigation of the Risk of Natural Hazards held at the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka on 27 and 28 March 2007. Dr Ranjith Dissanayake (now a full professor at Peradeniya) was the prime mover behind the conference, which was able to generate good international participation, including that of Dr Alan Davenport, undisputedly the grand old man of wind engineering. The conference was held also under the aegis of the International Institute for Infrastructure Renewal and Reconstruction (IIIRR), which is having another conference in Sri Lanka in July 2009, for which event this journal issue will be ready. Professor Chan Wirasinghe of Calgary University, the founder Chairman of IIIRR, was also at the conference and is a co-author of one of the papers.
