In today's cinema market, several developments are taking place that greatly effect the importance of cinema sound reproduction. Developments that are relating to the technical and commercial, as well as the marketing side of the cinema industry. On the technical side, the "buzzword" over the last few years has been "digital cinema". Initially with discussions taking place on the picture quality (resolution, compression methods and colour), now the discussion has moved to what "business model" will cater for a seamless transition from analog movies to digital movies.
